Castner Range National Monument

The permanent protection from any future development of what is now the Castner Range National Monument (CRNM) has constituted a significant step forward in the expansion of conservation education to marginalized communities who disproportionately bear the brunt of climate impacts and traditionally have had less access to nature. The area has been preserved in its pristine natural state due to the long-standing stewardship of Fort Bliss, and the “National Monument” designation will forever protect the land’s cultural, historical, scientific and environmental attributes, and will also preserve the fragile lands that are now surrounded by development on three sides.

Castner Range National Monument Community Coalition

Mission: An alliance of local community members, regional, national and international members, the Castner Range National Monument Community Coalition (CCC) oversees the sharing of the scientific, historical, and cultural significance of Castner Range throughout the borderland region.  Working in partnership with the Army, the CCC’s focus is that:

       i.          the protection for the Castner Range National Monument (CRNM) be ensured and sustained with comprehensive monument planning;

      ii.          safe and equitable access to CRNM be planned, researched, and moved forward; and,

    iii.          timely and effective education be delivered on how to connect with, enjoy, and respect the land.

 Vision: The majestic Castner Range National Monument – enjoyed, respected, and preserved for future generations!

 Strategic Intent : The goal is to instill a shared responsibility and oversight of the CRNM by the CCC in collaboration with the Army and all other partners. The CRNM has a special beauty, natural resources, water resources and springs, in addition to a rich cultural component and the important role it long has played in the history of the El Paso region. The key to achieving this goal is to educate the community on how to visit, respect and enjoy the land as it is today, and to ensure its multitude of tangible and intangible resources and qualitative preservation for the future. Investing in CRNM is a commitment that we make to our community, climate and economy, and to our region’s legacy.

Help us plan for the future of our new national monument.
