Soto: Castner monument can preserve our home
I grew up in Mexico. And I will always call it home. I live in the United States. And I will always call it home.
I am one of the nearly 3 million individuals who call the world’s largest bi-national community home. And I am proud of it.
Many who live beyond our borderland region may think that we are divided because of a wall that stands between our nations. And who would blame them?
Many of those living hundreds and thousands of miles away only see us as a community in conflict. What they don’t understand is that we are a resilient community yearning for every opportunity to be viewed as one.
As hundreds of trade leaders embark on our region this week for the annual Border Conference, they will give credence to our notion that our community is a place for economic opportunity. I think what newcomers will learn is that we are a community of forever hope.
