EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14) — The push continues to transform Castner Range into a national monument.
The Franklin Mountains Wilderness Coalition is gathering signatures that will be sent to President Barack Obama.
The signatures will be added to letter asking him to designate Castner Range as a national monument.
It would protect the 7,000 acres of land, which was once used for training soldiers stationed at Fort Bliss.
More recently, Castner Range is known for the Mexican gold poppies that bloom every year.
Wednesday’s meeting starts at 6:30 p.m.
