BLM, Defense Department to help preserve Castner

In one of the last acts of the Obama administration, two executive departments have agreed to work to preserve and clean up Castner Range.
The measure falls short of the goal adopted by U.S. Rep. Beto O’Rourke, D-El Paso, and thousands of El Pasoans to persuade Obama to declare the parcel a national monument.
O’Rourke’s office released a letter Friday morning — Obama’s last in office — that was signed by Neil Kornze, director of the Bureau of Land Management, and Maureen Sullivan, deputy assistant secretary of defense. “This may literally be the last act of the Obama administration,” O’Rourke said just after attending the inauguration of President Donald Trump.
